This renovation project was all about being clever with how we opened up a small 1 bedroom apartment with no central living space and cramped kitchen. Secondly that the living space is only 50 square meters so coming up with innovative and functional storage spaces was key to maximising the potential of this apartment.
Energy efficiency is a growing demand for every property so installing new tripled glazed windows and insulation on all the exterior walls was crucial to achieving this. Installing a combi boiler and completely new central heating system with column radiators and towel rail, combines functionality and style.
Reworking the layout and creating a second sliding door entrance into the bedroom and a sliding door into the kitchen maximises the space available. Combined with having a bespoke full height wardrobe with then creating a hidden door to allow access through to the new bathroom space gives a great impression of space.
The new kitchen space fully utilizes the three large windows to the south of the property and allows the new space to be flooded with sunlight. Changing the unit layout and installing the island allows four people to sit comfortably for meals but does not comprise the flow of the space.
The client was delighted with the end result. They remarked upon the attention to detail in terms of the quality of finish, and how we were always thinking of ways to improve the spaces through out the process.
Our challenge was to take a dark and dated, 1 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment in Stockbridge and transform it into a modern, functional and vibrant living space.
It was a full renovation, with us stripping out the entire flat right back to the bare internal stone walls and starting again.
The plan was to create a main open plan kitchen-living space in the front of the property with a new en-suite bathroom and double bedroom to the back.
To create this we inserted 2 steel beams and a steel post to allow us to change the layout and create this open plan space. This created a better flow and a more vibrant, light and luxurious space within the property.
Insulating all the exterior walls, ceilings and internal partitions increased the thermal efficiency of the spaces massively. Further installing a new gas combi boiler, supplied on demand hot water and heating for the new central heating system.
A new kitchen, with quartz stone worktops, and a converted gas Aga gave the kitchen a luxurios and bright feel, with all the appliances and boiler built into the kitchen cabinets.
The en-suite bathroom with large matt shower tray and vanity unit with wall hung toilet maximised the space. The bespoke wardrobes are designed by our in house team and create a tranquil and relaxing feel in the bedroom.
A full rewire was required in the property so it allowed us to have effective power points and lighting throughout. Smart appliances allows the cleint to control the heating and lighting remotely and efficiently.
The overall result was creating a really light, and spacious 1 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment ,in the heart of Stockbridge. The client was delighted with the level of finish achieved. Secondly that they knew they could trust us to deliver the project with the specific attention to detail and effective communication throughout.
The full project was completed in a 5 month time frame from building warrant application to handing over the completion certificate and within the clients budget.
